From the day the settlers arrived, Indigenous people have resisted colonization and disease. While we celebrate their resilience, today, on the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples – this year’s theme, according to the UN – we can’t, but be stirred up in excitement to Indigenous resistance leadership worldwide against colonization that is expanding, and working in solidarity with them to tumble systemic injustices that make them more susceptible to COVID-19.
This month, Turtle Island Solidarity Network (TISN) turns one. Over the year, our network has grown. We have responded to the Wet’s’suwet’en organizers’ invitation to serve as legal observers in their territory, to working with faith communities to understand the legacies of settler colonialism. Read the report.
As part of TISN’s mandate: Indigenous Solidarity, Settler Education, Coalition Building, and Undoing Settler Colonialism, throughout this month, we will be highlighting actions you can take to support Indigenous Resistance; films, reading and information to equip yourself as an ally; and, ways for you to participate.
